Privacy policy
What AreaPulse processes when you visit, what we don’t do, and the rights you have over your data.
Last updated: 1 August 2026
Who we are
AreaPulse is a UK neighbourhood-intelligence website that publishes aggregated statistics from official open data. For UK data-protection purposes, the operator of AreaPulse is the data controller. You can reach us at hello@areapulse.co.uk.
You do not need an account to use the site, and we do not ask for your name, postal address, or similar identity details to look up a postcode.
What we process
Postcodes and searches. When you enter a postcode (or similar search), we use it to fetch and show an area report. Requests may be logged and cached on our servers for a limited time so the site stays fast and reliable. We do not use searches to build a marketing profile of you.
Compare basket (on your device). If you add postcodes to compare, those values are stored in your browser’s local storage so the basket survives a refresh. You can clear it from the compare UI, or by clearing site data in your browser.
Technical data. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs (for example IP address and browser type) so the site can load and stay secure. We don’t use these logs to profile you.
Advertising. AreaPulse is free and may show Google AdSense ads. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. See Google’s advertising technologies and Google’s Privacy Policy. You can manage ad personalisation via Google Ad Settings.
We rely on our legitimate interests in running, securing, funding (through ads), and improving the site, and we keep server logs and caches only as long as needed for those purposes.
What we don’t do
- We don’t require registration or collect contact details just to use area reports.
- We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t send marketing emails.
- We don’t claim the underlying government statistics as our own proprietary datasets - sources are named on reports and on About & methodology.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict personal data we hold, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Because we don’t run user accounts, what we hold about a typical visitor is limited (technical logs, any messages you send us, and data stored in your own browser).
To exercise a right, email hello@areapulse.co.uk. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest revision.
For how you may use the site, see our Terms of service.
